From the beginning

My interest in plants & animals started already when I was 4 years old.

When I was 14 I started to collect my first cactus and succulent plants. (the Rebutia minuscula and a Echinopsis multiplex where my first ones) My father was a cultivator of cucumbers and tomatoes at that time. The temperature in the greenhouse was high (gas was really cheap) and this gave me the opportunity to experiment a lot with the cactuses. When I finished my studies I moved to the south of France where I lived and worked for 10 years.

South of France

Together with my ‘unforgettable boss’ Andre van Vliet we managed to develop his plant production business which became one of the most important players of the industry of the South of France.

In 1990 I started my own cactus plantation in Sappemeer (a small town in the north of the Netherlands). Very soon the agaves where the key products of my business.

Unfortunately prices at the plant auctions where too low and in 2003 I decided to continue my business on a smaller scale with and moved to a greenhouse of 400 scare meters.

Hobby & specialized

I decided to focus more on the ‘hobbyist & specialized’ market and not for the mainstream anymore. It gave me the opportunity to focus more on the botanic side of the business and develop new agave species. My newest agave at the moment is “the Papilio Platanioides” for which I now demanded the plant variety right.
